Air quality inspection during construction of motor highway Zagreb - Split
This paper describes a survey conducted by Department of Mining and Geotehnical Engineering (DMGE) of ventilation systems for tunnel excavation on future Motor highway Zagreb - Split, which will link north (continental) and south (Mediterranean) state regions in approximate length of nearly 400 km, and represents major transport infrastructure developments in Croatia. Highway course cuts through mountainous, karst areas, characterized mainly by carbonate rocks - dolomite and limestone. On highway course there are series of tunnels in construction. Their length varies from several hundred meters to several kilometers. Conventional mining methods have been used for excavation of the tunnels. Several different types of explosives and initial systems were in use. In construction period environmental situation measurements have been performed. The objective of this survey was to gather information to make a determination as to the general operational characteristics regarding tunnel excavation ventilation systems.
