RELEASE OF PES FIBRE PARTICLES DURING WASHING - ESTIMATION BY REDUCING THE FABRIC MASS AND DRY MASS OF THE RESIDUAL BATH

The textile supply chain has more contacts with the hydrosphere and numerous penetration opportunities. The textile industry must recognize how much it contributes to the problem of microplastics pollution, and it must investigate this problem and develop ways to stop or lessen environmental impact, especially pollution from microplastics. The amount of microplastics from the textile industry that enter the environment, especially when washing and wearing textile products, is unknown because the methods for determining the amounts of microplastics released are not harmonised, i.e., the methods and specifications of the amounts released vary greatly (the amounts are estimated). By reducing the mass of the fabric samples and calculating the amount of dry matter in the residual bath after simulating the washing process of typical polyester fabrics in the Ahiba laboratory device using common and household detergents, this study aimed to indirectly contribute to the determination of the amount of fibre particles (microplastics) released.
