The missing link? The Late Hallstatt and Early La Tène Horizons on Dalj-Busija Cemetery

The Dalj – Busija cemetery is one of the most important Late Bronze and Iron Age cemeteries in the Middle Danubian area. The long continuity of its use that can be observed in the material remains is, unfortunately, impaired by the compromised, uncertain or ruined grave contexts from the research campaigns undertaken in the early 20th century and from arbitrary collection of the material from the site. On the other hand, progress that was made in recent years in researching the communities inhabiting the south-eastern part of the Carpathian Basin during the period from the second half of the 6th to the beginning of the 3rd cent. BC, suggests an existence of an complex cultural processes that should, also, be observable on Dalj – Busija cemetery, but also on stray finds from wider Dalj area. In this paper, we would like to focus on the finds from Dalj – Busija cemetery that primarily based on their typological elements and traits can be attributed to the chronological frame ranging from the second half of the 6th to the beginning of the 3th cent. BC. By revising the published and unpublished material from the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb we aim to shed more light to this important, but somewhat illusive period.
