Parental meta-emotion, child's temperament and child externalising and internalising problems
The main goal of this investigation is to evaluate the contribution of parental meta-emotion and child's temperament to explain the child's psychosocial adjustment. The investigation included 506 children (265 girls and 241 boys) aged between three and seven, enrolled at kindergartens and their parents. The researched variables were measured using newly devised questionnaires as well as well-known questionnaires. Sociodemographic variables, variables of family functioning, meta-emotion of mothers and fathers as well as dimensions of children's temperament, together explain until 33% of the variance in child externalising and internalising problems. Children with fewer externalising problems will have less emphasised dimensions of positive and negative affectivity, but more emphasised dimensions of effortful control and a more positive estimation of family cohesion. Children with less internalising problems are children who are not first born, who have more effortful control as well as more surgency. Those children also have less negative affectivity with higher parental evaluations of satisfaction within the family and fathers with a higher awareness of their own and children's emotions. Mothers' awareness of their own and children's emotions were shown to influence children's internalising and externalising problems indirectly, through fathers's awareness of their own and children's negative emotions.
