Fixed Cylindrical Mirrors
The parabolic cylindrical mirrors are used to concentrate solar heat energy. The common used mirrors have to be turned horizontally and vertically to follow the relative daily and annual movement of the Sun. Such mirrors, having adequate mechanism, are expensive. We proposed long cylindrical mirrors, fixed in the direction east-west to collect intensive heat. The optical axis is oriented in the north center of gravity of the ecliptic line. A black tube accumulating the heat is placed at the focus of such mirror. The mirror does not have a curved surface, but is made of longitudinal flat strips of limited width, made of common glass. With such a mirror, the optical advantage of parabolic form is no more relevant, so the mirror can have the form of a circular cylinder. With the orientation of cylinder in east-west direction, it is not necessary to follow the daily movement of the Sun. Because of a change of the declination of the sun, the zone of maximal concentration of the rays moves along a straight line near the focal distance. The result is that the black tube has to be moved only some centimeters, in temporal intervals they depend on the position of the sun over celestial aquator.
