METHODOLOGICAL AND CURRICULAR CHARACTERISTICS OF ART TEACHING WITH GIFTED STUDENTS IN THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA

According to many previous researches (Cvetković-Lay & Sekulić Majurec, 1998 ; Maksić & Spasenović, 2018 ; Vojnović, 2005), the most important factors in the process of developing students’ talent and creativity are schools and teachers. Teacher's role in recognising areas for giftedness is indispensable. The aim of this research was to examine some methodological and curricular characteristics of teaching w ith artistically gifted students by art teachers in the Republic of Croatia (N = 118). For the purposes of research, a questionnaire was constructed on the teaching of art culture with artistically gifted students. The results of research indicate that teachers usually inform parents about the giftedness of their children in individual meetings. In about 50% of the cases, information on how to work with artistically gifted students, teachers found in the professional literature, on internet and / or from other teachers. Teachers often State that as individual forms of working with artistically gifted students, they most often use additional classes, students' individual assignments, students' involvement in art competitions and preparation of various projects. As the most common activities with gifted students in the field of art, teachers apply additional art education classes and workshops with art content. At the same time, and as a lack of activities for artistically gifted students, in most cases teachers cite a lack of time and space, and finances.
