The Routledge Handbook of Media Education Futures Post-Pandemic
This book is a time capsule of the state of media education around the world between 2020 and 2021 amid the increased instances of COVID-19 cases leading to national lockdowns, remote instruction as well as political unrest and social and economic disruption in many countries. In this introductory chapter, we offer a model of media education based on previous models to emphasize the role of the educator in the media ecosystem, especially during the pandemic. Each chapter of this handbook represents how media educators addressed the many challenges facing the consequences of the global pandemic. Each unique culture, context and setting dealt with the situation in ways that were both similar and different in nuanced ways. The authors of the 57 chapters of this book offer a multiplicity of ways to overcome these old and new challenges with a view to offering a new horizon for the future of media education.
