Relationship between adult children and elderly parents – self-realization from the elderly’s perspective

The aim of this paper is to show the results of a study of the relationship between adult children and parents from the elderly parents’ perspective. Results of the qualitative study, conducted on 15 participants living in two Croatian cities, show that the relationship between adult children and their parents is not only positive, but the elderly also express their satisfaction with their status in the family. However, they expect higher emotional support as well as help from their children, while simultaneously trying to maintain their autonomy.
