The compound [(CH_3)_4N]_4[(Ta_6Cl_12)Cl_6]Cl has been prepared and structurally characterized. It crystallizes in the cubic space group Fm3m. The crystal structure contains two different coordination polyhedra, i. e. four tetrahedral [(CH_3)_4N)^+ cations and one octahedral [(Ta_6Cl_12)Cl_6]^3- cluster anion and one Cl^-. The presence of the three different kinds of chlorine atoms (bridging (mu _2), terminal and counter anion) in one molecule makes this substance unique in chemistry of hexanuclear clusters of niobium and tantalum.
