War in Ukraine: Impacts on the Eastern Partnership and responsibility of the EU
The EU’s foreign policy towards the Eastern Partnership (EaP) in general is currently guided by the post2020 EaP priorities (post-2020 priorities), enshrined in a Joint Communication document adopted in July 2021.Meanwhile, on February 24, 2022, Russia attacked Ukraine, a key EaP country, and that war quickly escalated into the largest military conflict in Europe since World War II. The aim of this paper is an attempt at viewing at the Eastern Partnership policy (EaP) from the point of view of EU responsibilities in the situation of war in Ukraine. The paper will also consider the following research question: Will Russia-Ukraine conflict (and Russia-the West conflict in a broad sense) and the consequent birth of a new geopolitical map of Europe (as stated by the European leader) will mean a more active role of the EU towards the Eastern Partnership countries? The war in Ukraine should influence a change of thinking within the EU regarding the Eastern neighbors, because the status quo is not an option for the EU or for the Eastern neighbors
