An overview of fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making methods in hospitality and tourism industries: bibliometrics, methodologies, applications and future directions
Stakeholders in hospitality and tourism industries are involved inmany decision-making scenarios. Multi-criteria decision-making(MCDM) methods have been widely used in hospitality and tour-ism industries. Although some articles summarised the applica-tions of MCDM models in hospitality and tourism industries, theyignored the fuzziness of individual cognition in an uncertainenvironment. In addition, these surveys lacked a comprehensiveoverview from the perspective of bibliometrics analysis and con-tent analysis regarding the whole hospitality and tourism indus-tries. To analyse the applications of fuzzy MCDM methods inhospitality and tourism industries and further explore futureresearch directions, this article reviews 85 selected papers pub-lished from 1997 to 2022 regarding fuzzy MCDM models appliedin hospitality and tourism industries. Through analysing theresults of bibliometric analysis, methodologies and applications, we found that analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and TOPSIS meth-ods are the most widely used MCDM methods, and tourismevaluation, hotel evaluation and selection, tourism destinationevaluation and selection are the most attractive research issues inhospitality and tourism industries. Finally, future research direc-tions are proposed from three aspects. This article providesinsights for researchers and practitioners who have interest infuzzy MCDM models in hospitality and tourism industries.
