Comparatively on wellbeing in European rural areas
If resilience is successful adaptation in times of adversity, and the goal is to develop and strengthen the resilience of rural areas, then we must know if the right conditions are met and in what ways. Scientific project “Social-ecological challenges of rural development: objective and subjective indicators of resilience of Croatian rural social-ecological systems” *UIP-2019-04-5257), funded by Croatian Science Foundation (2020-2024), measures objective indicators of wellbeing (e.g. economic, social, environmental, infrastructure etc.) + subjective wellbeing (SWB): rural residents’ evaluation of and satisfaction with objective and subjective indicators of wellbeing (e.g. sense of community, relationships, happiness, trust, sense of attachment, social activities etc.). In this presentation we examine the care for nature in Central Europe based on the European Social Survey (ESS) data from Round 4 (2008) and Round 9 (2018) over time and cross-nationally, as well as in rural and urban areas (Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia).
