UPPScAle Project - Pain Science in The Undergraduate Physiotherapy Program

Under the Erasmus + Partnership for Cooperation (KA220-HED), the Undergraduate Physiotherapy Pain Science Curriculum Augmentation Project was accepted. The main goals of the project are: 1. Align the curriculum of the pain science project partner with international best practice 2. Identify gaps between curriculum and clinical practice 3. Capacity development with partners in participation in trainings "train the trainer". Partners. The project involves five international institutions: UCD School of Public Health, Physiotherapy and Sports Science (Ireland) ; University of Applied Sciences Utrecht (Netherlands) ; University of Ljubljana (Slovenia) ; University of Craiova, Faculty of Physical Education, Sports and Kinesiology (Romania) and University of Applied Health Sciences (Croatia). Project activities. A comparison of undergraduate physiotherapy curricula on pain science was conducted to identify the gap between curriculum and clinical practice. The need for harmonization on pain knowledge, assessment and interdisciplinary approach was identified. Needs for further development of knowledge about pain in curricula with learning outcomes that improve biopsychosocial and communication skills through a holistic approach have been identified. Conclusion. According to the further expected professional development of physiotherapists, the project will show trends in the education of physiotherapists in the way of educating educators, i.e. learning to teach pain science through "teach the teacher" approach, with emphasis on case studies and perspectives on the development of supporting courses within contemporary curricula.
