LEPOGLAVA LACE - GUARDIAN OF THE TRADITION OF NORTHERN CROATIA
Lacemaking tradition is one of the traditions represented in the Republic of Croatia. Several Croatian regions preserve this tradition, and the lacemaking tradition of northern Croatia is particularly interesting and internationally recognised. Lepoglava, a city that has played a crucial role in the historical development of education in the Republic of Croatia, now preserves and nurtures the lacemaking tradition, the Lepoglava lace, inscribed on the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage. Thus, the tradition received recognition and the possibility of preserving it from oblivion. Lepoglava lacemaking has its own unique features that will be described in this paper. Today, more than ever, it is necessary to present and nurture such traditions because, in the modern environment and due to some new interests, there is often no interest in traditions that require a lot of time and patience to create.
