THE INFLUENCE OF WOOD PELLET EXPOSURE TO DIFFERENT MICROCLIMATIC CONDITIONS ON THEIR MECHANICAL AND DIMENSIONAL PROPERTIES
Wood pellet’s mechanical properties, as an important quality parameter, are directly affected by moisture content (MC). This study investigated the effect of increased MC on certified pellet’s mechanical and dimensional properties. In order to increase their MC, baseline samples were exposed to intense conditions inside a climate chamber for various residence periods, and then tested for mechanical durability (DU) by both standardised tumbler method and non-standardised Holmen ligno tester. Pellet’s diameters were also recorded for each residence time. Even though increased MCs negatively affected these properties, their values mainly stayed within the certification quality requirements.
