Cytogenetic analysis of eoght neuroblastoma
Neuroblastoma is one of the most common solid tumors in children. Cytogenetic analysis revealed recurrent chromosome aberrations. Abnormalities of chromosomes No.1 are identified in some 70% of cases. Most frequent are terminal deletions and unknown translocations, while specific translocations and other type of structural aberrations of the short arm are rare. . In this study we present the results of cytogenetic analysis in our series of eight neuroblastoma. Direct cytogenetic analysis was performed on tumor pieces, lymph node prior to the begining of the therapy. Slides were stained by GTG - banding method, and no less than 15 metaphases were karyotyped. Chromosome studies of malignant cells revealed aneuploid karyotypes in 7 cases, with numerical and structural aberrations, while in one child normal diploid karyotype was identified. One tumor was pseudodiploid, three hyperdiploid and three hypotetraploid. Aberrations of chromosome No. 1 occured in each neuroblastoma with clonal abnormalities. This study revealed some rare aberrations and provided additional evidence for the involvement of chromosome No 1 in neuroblastoma.
