Effect of temperature on corrosion behaviour of AA6060 in seawater and brackish water under the flow condition
Beyond usage for various architectural purposes AA6060 exhibit increased application in marine environment on ships, bridges and various marine facilities. Majority of the reported laboratory testing of AA6060 in brackish water and seawater is related with various electrochemical measurements in NaCl solution and artificial seawater under stagnant condition. In order to understand AA6060 behaviour in marine environment and to avoid corrosion damage and extra costs, tests in natural and freshly sampled brackish and seawater under the flow condition are highly desirable. The aim of this work is to examine the corrosion behavior of AA6060 under the laminar flow regime (Re=237) in seawater and brackish water and to investigate effect of temperature elevation from 10°C to 30°C. Obtained result indicate that temperature elevation have negative impact on all electrochemical parameters and consequently on corrosion occurrence. Furthermore, it was concluded that under the laminar flow regime AA6060 exhibit greatest corrosion activity in brackish water at 30°C.
