TRANSFORMING SHIPBUILDING FROM TRADITIONAL TO SMART

Due to digital technological achievements, economies of developed countries have entered the fourth industrial revolution over the last few years, transforming the industry into a smart “Industry 4.0”, enabling the same innovation as a prerequisite for sustainable development and economic growth. Using the “CULIS methodology, ” the impact of Industry 4.0 trends on shipbuilding will be analyzed by implementing those in production and technological processes, with the expected result of defining the “Shipyard 4.0” model to create new high value-added products through producing safe, energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly ships with high autonomy in management and maintenance (“Smart Ships”).
