Linguistic diversity in the context of multilingual education: a case study of bilingual families in Germany and Austria

Languages ​​determine the identity of each individual, but they are also part of our common heritage. Linguistic diversity is incorporated in Article 22 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. One of its fundamental principles is respect for the rights of members of minorities. The Charter prohibits their discrimination and requires respect for cultural, religious and linguistic diversity throughout the Union. The Commission ensures that when implementing EU law, fundamental rights are respected, including the right to non- discrimination. Interference continues to decrease as learning goes on, but most foreign language learners never reach the level of native speakers.
