ABRASION WEAR ANALYSIS OF BORONIZED AND SUBSEQUENTLY HARDENED SAMPLES
Boronizing is a type of thermal diffusion process whose primary goal is to increase the surface hardness, wear resistance and extend the service life of machine elements. Wear resistance of boronized parts depends on the type of borides, surface hardness, and effective boriding depth. One way to increase wear resistance is to modify the boronizing process in order to increase the depth of the boride layer. In addition to modifying the boride layer that forms on the steel surface, increase in wear resistance can be achieved by increasing the hardness of the substrate material on which the boride layer is formed. In this paper the abrasion resistance of specimen made of X90CrMoV-18 steel in hardened, boronized or boronized and subsequently hardened state (duplex process) was investigated.
