Knowledge Base and Process Competencies in Social Work Practice
Process competencies are those set of competencies that are crucial for direct social work practice. Usually, they are contextualised with respect to institutional surrounding and national context that includes specific legislation relevant for social work practice. Process competencies are that concrete “result” of knowledge-skills-value triangle visible in the field. For that reason, we will primarily elaborate competencies required for professional decision-making process. Namely this includes understanding relevant theories, nurturing practice-research interconnections, including multiple perspectives and indigenous perspectives. Furthermore, we will analyse following areas of process competencies: empowerment and service users’ perspective in direct practice, competencies for assessment, data collection, planning intervention, evaluation of practice and follow-up, and developing collaboration with service users’ surrounding. Additionally, we will elaborate competencies in technology as integral part of process competencies.
