Synthesis and cycloaddition reactivity of isoindole containing guanidine functionality

The first representative of isoindoles containing guanidine functionality, N, N-di-Boc-2H-isoindole-2-carboxamidine was synthetized. The reactivity of this new Diels-Alder diene was studied and compared to the corresponding pyrrole. The novel compound was utilized as cycloaddition delivery reagent[1, 2] for guanidine functionality to form polycyclic structures. The experimental studies were supplemented by quantum chemical studies (DFT) of its cycloaddition reactivity.
