Chloride transport in concrete based on clays with different kaolin content
In recent years, the use of blended cements to reduce carbon emissions has increased dramatically. Due to its enhanced performance and wide availability, calcined clays are gaining popularity in cementitious mixtures, especially in combination with limestone. Clays have been deposited all over the world, but the kaolinite content, which is the determining factor in their overall performance, varies from region to region. According to the majority of studies, cement with limestone and clay of at least 40% of kaolinite perform as well as standard Portland cement. As a result, the use of low-kaolin clay in cement in the regions with only low-kaolin clay deposition would be an intriguing area to investigate. In this study, a blend of cement, limestone and calcined clay were prepared, and their durability, particularly their chloride resistance, was evaluated and compared with two different cements.
