The Discourse on the Integration of Art and Architecture in the Mid-20th Century and its Contemporary Reflections
This paper points out to the continuity and transformation of the discourse on the integration of art and architecture. The first part examines the modern synthesis of the arts through the works of Sigfried Giedion, Nikolaus Pevsner, Le Corbusier, Paul Damaz, André Bloc, Fernand Léger, and Asger Jorn. The second part establishes a bridge between this discourse of the mid-20th century and the subsequent forms of architecture and art that emerged in the decades that followed, as well as the contemporary discourse on connecting art and architecture that introduced new vocabulary and that challenged those very same “traditional” concepts in which it was rooted.
