Bearer Independent Call Control Protocol in Multi-service Networks
One aspect of Voice over IP is a problem of providing a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and Integrated Services Digital Networks (ISDN) functionality using Internet Protocol (IP) as bearer protocol. One possible solution for that problem is separation of call control and bearer control signalling implemented as Bearer Independent Call Control (BICC) protocol. This paper deals with reasons for implementation of BICC protocol in multi-service networks and gives one possible solution for implementation of the protocol in multi-service networks. The development project for BICC protocol stack using SDL modeling that allows protocol implementation on different open platforms for Signalling Gateways and Media Gateway Controllers and results of the project are presented in this paper.
