The Implementation of the Istanbul Convention in Croatia – Legal and Institutional Challenges
A lot of misinformation and untruths have been spread about the Istanbul Convention during the process of its ratification in Croatia. This has caused mobilization of different groups and led to widespread campaigns against the Convention and what it represents. However, after the ratification the interest in the Convention decreased. Not even a third of the pre- ratification content currently exists in the public sphere. Although public interest has waned, it did not relieve the Government of the Republic of Croatia from the obligation of its implementation. This paper analyses the implementation of the Istanbul Convention in the legal and institutional realms and assesses its effects on the ground.
