IS LIFE WITH A RARE DISEASE BETTER NEAR THE SEA? Quality of Life of Persons with Haemophilia Living in Croatian Costal and Inland Areas
A survey among persons with haemophilia examined the relevance of area in which one lives (coast versus inland) for life satisfaction in general. Possible differences in severity of the disease, socio-economic status, social support and satisfaction with health care of those living in one or another area were considered. The results showed that satisfaction with health care does not depend on where one lives, and that area of residence is an independent determinant of life satisfaction: it is higher in the coastal region, controlling for differences in other (mentioned) variables. On the whole, the results confirm the findings according to which life by the sea might be subjectively better including this particular case, where specific care is needed.
