Transient analysis of sound in long straight air duct with insulation barrier
The purpose of this paper is to analysis the wave transmission along the long straight air duct with insulation barrier. The short sound burst is produced to generate the initial wave. The initial wave should be very short so that it can be clearly observed and to prevent possible interference with the reflected wave. The air duct is made very long so that the sound pressure can be determined with minimal reflection influence. Sound pressure is measured before and after sound insulation barrier as well as at the very beginning of the air duct where the initial wave was generated. Insulation properties and energy loss are detected and compared with results in Kundt tube. Auto-correlation and cross-correlation of transient pressure signal and acoustic waves are implemented in order to assess wave packet parameters. Mathematical model of transient wave propagation in long air duct with insulation barrier was developed. The purpose of the mathematical model is to perform a simulation, but also as a basis for a model update and inverse analysis after the measurement is done. Different innovative insulation barriers were tested and compared.
