Functional Sportswear Materials for Specific Sports Requirements

The term functional sportswear refers to different types of sports apparel designed to provide maximum comfort to the end user. Comfortable sportswear gives a pleasant effect to the athlete and provides physical and psychological integrity between the athlete and the environment where the training or match is played. Besides this good feeling, it also plays a role in the performance efficiency of the athlete. Nowadays, the development of novel sportswear materials for increased performance is a key subject in apparel research and production. A number of studies have recently been conducted to characterize the impact of material structural characteristics on critical fabric properties such as heat resistance, vapour resistance, air permeability, and various mechanical properties. It is a joint point of view that further research is needed to value the influence of characteristics on the functionality of materials for specific sportswear.
