Photosensitizers in Organic Synthesis
Photochemical reactions taking place via triplet excited state often require the use of photosensitizers. The processes which can be sensitized are numerous and the review is intended to cover only some examples showing the principles of how triplet sensitization can be used to construct different synthons in organic synthesis. Triplet excited states behave as biradical species and undergo typical radical processes including, just to name some, additions to a double bond, H-abstractions or electron transfer. The variety of structures which can be constructed is endless and there are continuous efforts of scientists to develop new triplet excited state reactions.
