Cruise Ship Inspections With A Focus On USPH Standards
This paper is a student’s perspective and approach to various issues that can affect health on a cruise ship. It provides an overview of the United States Public Health (USPH) Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP), operated by the Centers for Disease Control and Protection (CDC). Protecting the health, safety and security of passengers and employees is an integral part of the Company policy of many cruise ship companies. According to Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), a typical cruise ship has more than 60 safety, environmental and health inspections annually. The CLIA analyses and numbers show that the cruising industry has always been one of the fastest- growing global tourism segments, with 29.7 million passengers. COVID-19 pandemic has severely affected this industry, and it is necessary to know all the measures that contribute to the protection and preservation of the health of all people on board ships.
