On Minimization of the Group Variability of Intermittent Renewable Generators //Short conference version//
We discuss an approach in minimization of the group variability of generation in a system of intermittent renewable sources using the portfolio theory, whereby the total variability of a system, that can be modeled using various parameters as goal functions, is minimized given any desired level of expected long-term generation. An extensive analysis was carried out on a set of time series of measured generation data obtained from twenty wind plants in Croatia over a five- year period in one hour, and fifteen minute, time resolutions. The choice of the goal function most relevant for the operational (and economic) consequences of short-term variability is discussed.

An important note: This paper was presented at the aforementioned conference. The conference committee selected the article for publication in a scientific journal, for which purpose it was extended with a very significant portion of new content, but it retained the same title. The journal article was entered into the CROSBI base with the CROSBI ID: 1208255.
