Full-scale measurements of ship motion in rough seas in the Adriatic Sea
Full-scale measurements of ship motion in rough seas in the Adriatic Sea are presented. A vessel used in the measurement campaign was the research ship Bios Dva of 36m in length. Experiments were performed by simultaneously measuring waves and ship responses for 9 different heading angles during southeast wind blowing. The duration of measurements for each heading angle was 30 minutes, and ship speed was about 7kn. Waves were recorded by floating buoy. The experimental setup, instrumentation, and basic results of the measurements are described. Wave and response energy spectra are determined from the corresponding time series. The purpose of the study is to enable future comparison with seakeeping calculations aiming to quantify modelling uncertainties in ship response predictions.
