Using digital twin in a shipbuilding project
"Virtual Reality", as one of the "Industry 4.0" trends, with applicable 3D modelling tools, allows the creation of a digital replica of the product - "Digital Twin", primarily for selecting optimal technical and technological solutions before and during physical construction, and ultimately managing the entire product life cycle. As one of the key technological achievements in implementing the transformation of the business system from traditional to smart, Digital Twin should also be recognized as the backbone of the "Shipyard 4.0" model or its "Cyber-physical space". Digital Twin is also the axis of the shipyard’s horizontal integration with customers and suppliers. It enables all stakeholders to work simultaneously on a virtual prototype of the ship through all product phases - from its development and design to construction and maintenance. This paper presents the importance of the Digital Twin ship in achieving savings in the project realization process and the role of its application in attaining high standards of environmental protection and worker safety.
