Preschool Teachers’ Competenices for Professional Ethics in Parents Counselling
In the new paradigm of early and preschool education professional demands imposed upon modern preschool teachers are increased and include general ethical behavior of preschool teachers, specifically in parents counseling. The aim was to identify and explore the educator's perception of the necessary competencies for ethical considerations when counseling parents. This qualitative study used a semi-structured interview, which involved 11 preschool teachers. Interviews are transcriptional and coded according to thematic analysis. Most preschool teachers reflect the importance of ethical conduct in counseling parents while the necessary competencies for this specific area are seen in the development of knowledge about professional ethics and counseling, acquiring skills for ethical behavior and proactivity. The key role in the development of these competencies is visible in the continuous professional development, institutional support, and initial education. Evidently, preschool teachers approach conscientiously and professionally in challenging situations they are facing in their daily work with children and parents, questioning the personal level of knowledge and skills for ethical behavior while working with parents.
