On the Contract of Sale in the Kingdom of Jerusalem
The early renaissance of Roman law is usually associated with 11th and 12th century northern Italy, where glossators started teaching Roman law, and from where their method and knowledge started to spread soon afterwards to southern France and later further on. However, there are some indices that the practice of Roman law spread all the way to the Holy Land and the Crusader States, viz. Kingdom of Jerusalem, already by the mid-12th Century and it is taken as a fact for the 13th Century. Following up on one of the cases dealing with the possible application of Roman law rules to the sale of movables, it is elaborated in more detail the regulation of the contract of sale in different legal systems (based on the personal application of law) within the Kingdom of Jerusalem. Hereby, it is also reconsidered the scope, geographical extension and the timeframe of the reception of Roman law.
