The Analysis of the Entropy Production and Heat Transfer Efficency of a Crossflow Heat Exchanger

In this paper a numerical analysis of non -dimensional entropy increase in a crossflow heat exchanger is presented, based on the finite difference method. For the purpose, only the effect of temperature difference the two flows was taken into account. The entropy generation is reduced to the product (kA0). The equations were integrated over the heta exchanger surface rather than, as is usually done along the streamlines of the two flows.It was concluded that in a such way a more general result is obtained. The numerical results were calculated and presented in diagrams for the non-dimensional parameters in the range 0, 2<pit<10 ; 0<pi3<1, 0 ; 0<pi2<5, 0. Along with these results in the diagrams, the heat exchanger effectivenes curve is ploted too, showing the relationship between the non-dimensional entropy generationand the associated heat exchanger effectivenes. The presented model yields the solution for the other basic heat exchanger types, parallel-flow and counterflow, if a phase schange of one of the flows or of both of them occurs.
