Phase development during calcination process of (Mg0.2Co0.2Ni0.2Cu0.2Zn0.2)O high entropy oxide prepared by citrate-nitrate method
High entropy materials (HEMs) have become interesting solid solutions with applications primarily in the energy field. HEMs contain five or more elements in equimolar metal ratios to stabilize their structures and maximize configurational entropy. (Mg0.2Co0.2Ni0.2Cu0.2Zn0.2)O is an oxide with five- equimolar component high entropy oxide (HEO), which is considered as a promising material for oxidations and batteries and exhibits dielectric and intercalation properties. In this work, we present the synthesis and preparation of a phase-pure HEO by the citrate-nitrate gel method and the crystallographic phase evolution as a function of calcination process parameters. During study, several calcination parameters were varied (final temperature, time of calcination, atmosphere). The characterization of the final samples was made using the XRD method (for phase qualification and quantification), thermogravimetric analysis, and FE-SEM microscopy with EDS detector for element distribution.
