A visual census of the coastal fish assemblage at Kostrena (the Kvarner area, Croatia)

The modified stationary visual census technikque (point method of circular point method) was used to provide a preliminary description of fish assemblages at the locality of Kostrena (the Kvarner area, Croatia). A high number (52) of fish species was recorded. Th ereults also showed strong influence of substrate composition and bottom depth on the fish community, atz least on fish species composition. Samples grouped in cluster analysis in five habitat types based on similarity of bottom and depth characetristics. Th ecommunity parameters between groups were significantly different.
