Numerical simulation of radial gear extrusion in cold state
Numerical simulations of metal forming processes using Finite Elements Method &#8211 ; ; FEM, play a significant role in Net Shape technologies. One example of such technologies is the process of radial gear extrusion in a cold state. The aim of this paper is to show the steps taken in defining and improving the model of radial gear extrusion in cold state, using the Finite Elements Method. During the analysis following two aspects were considered. Firstly, an examination of the deviation of simulation values from experimental values was performed, and secondly, numerical criteria was taken into account in order to check the stability of the FEM model. Once, the most feasible model has been found it can be applied to different geometries, by making only minor changes over the gear geometry in MSC.Marc 2001 simulation program package. The ability to apply the most feasible model to other gear geometries has been proved by previous experimental work conducted in relation FEM &#8211 ; ; Experiment.
