Sensitivity of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli isolates in weanlings from croatian swine farms
Due to ever increasing resistance of entrotoxigenic strains of Escherichia (E.)coli, the sensitivity of 74 E. coli enterotoxigenic strains isolated on weanlings pigs that died from colibacillosis was investigated. All the strains analyzed were haemolytic and belonged to standard serogroups. The ATB VET and ATB G-5 (Mini API BioMerieux) tests were used to analyze each individual strain sensitivity to 45 antimicrobilas. Considering the drugs used in veterinary medicine, the isolated strains showed highest sensitivity to colistin, enrofloxacin, spectinomycin, oxolinic acid, apramycin and chloramphenicol. Considering the drugs used in human medicine, all strains were sensitive to third generation cephalosporins, piperacillin, ticarcillin, aztreonam, imipenem, amikacin and secind geneneration quinolones (ciprofloxacin, Lavofloxacin). Only some 20% of the strains were sensitive to amoxicillin, whereas total resistance was only recorded to tetracycline antibiotics and streptomycin.
