INFLUENCE OF ELECTRODE DISTANCE ON COMPOST LEACHATE TREATMENT USING HYBRID ELECTROCOAGULATION AND NATURAL ZEOLITE
Compost leachate produced during composting contains different organic and inorganic pollutants and pathogens. Thus, leachate needs to treat before its release into the natural recipient. This paper evaluated the influence of aluminium electrode distance on compost leachate treatment using hybrid electrocoagulation and natural zeolite. The efficiency of the process was evaluated by measuring the pH value, el. conductivity, temperature, turbidity, chemical oxygen demand (COD), total Kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN), settling test and electrode consumption. The results show that the distance of electrodes significantly influences the temperature rise, COD and TKN removal, settling rate and electrode consumption, while its effect on pH increase, el. conductivity change and turbidity removal are less pronounced. Calculation of the operational costs shows that increase in electrode distance influence the increase of energy and electrode cost.
