The relation of aortic stiffness to cardiovascular risk SCORE and inflammatory biomarkers in COPD
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES. To determine if arterial stiffness (AS) variables are related to SCORE and levels of inflammatory biomarkers in COPD patients without previous comorbidities. RESULTS: PWVAO value is associated with SCORE result (r=0.390, P<0.001). Fibrinogen level is correlated with PWVAO value (r=0.279, p<0.001) and SCORE result (r-0.245). hs-CRP levels correlate with PWVAO (r=0.170, p=0.015) and SCORE result (r=0.278, p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Critical PWVA0 of 10 m/s is achieved already in the SCORE calculation of 4% Results suggest that AS is associated with SCORE calculation. Both AS and SCORE results are related to levels of hs-CRP and fibrinogen. Results support evidence that AS, as well as biomarkers, could be useful in practice to determine CV risk in COPD patients.
