Operative Treatment Of Scapular Fractures: Functional Outcome And Complications
Scapular fractures are usually caused by high- energy trauma, thus they are associated with other multiple injuries. The wast majority of extra- articular scapular fractures can be treated conservatively. The lack of conservative treatment may be a reduced range of motion and chronic shoulder pain. The indications for surgical treatment of scapular fractures remain controversial. The aim of this study was to describe surgical technique, report on patient-based functional outcomes and complications following open reduction and internal fixation in patients with scapular fractures. Open reduction and internal fixation of displaced scapular fractures is a safe and effective treatment option that results in reliable union rate and good to excellent functional outcome.
