Economic Disasters: A New Database

This study presents the construction and results of a global economic disaster data set. Our data set complements Barro and Ursúa's (2008, 2012) data. We extend the number of covered countries before and especially after World War II. For each disaster, we provide data on the country, starting and ending year, size, duration, time of recovery, size of population, and level of development.
