Phenomenon of the liturgical chants with mensural elements, or simply with elements of rhythm, are called cantus fractus and is distinguished by different styles and forms, and different linguistic base. It is normally sung on a Latin text, but in Dalmatia we find texts in vernacular language too. Sources of cantus fractus in Dalmatian lands can be found today in monasteries belonging to the Franciscan province of the most Holy Redeemer with its site in Split and in the Franciscan Province of St Jerome with its site in Zadar. For all provinces carrying the title «de observantia», from the 17th century until the renovation of the order in the year 1890, the main rules for liturgical singing were those from the general constitutions called Constitutiones Sambucanae, dating back to the year 1658. The Dalmatian repertory of cantus fractus investigated in part in Cromuscodex70 project (Croatian Science Foundation- HRZZ), consists mostly of two-part chants for the ordinary of mass. Aim of this paper is to present as a case study, a recently discovered example of the two-part movements for a mass written in square notation, kept in the Franciscan monastery in Split-Poljud (dating from the18th century).
