The increase in frequency of chronic non- contagious diseases is the cause of the sci- entists’ ever increasing interest in promoting the implementation of regular physical ac- tivity and proper nutrition, especially when children and young people are concerned, in order to gain positive life habits from the early stage of life. Physical activity is the main link in health preservation and improvement, mental and cognitive capacities improve- ment and sport spirit development. Due to health prevention and improvement, human body needs continuous movement from childhood to old age. Unfortunately, at pre- sent, physical activity is insufficient and eat- ing habits are poor. Along with insufficient physical activity, the cause of non-contagious chronical diseases is an improper diet which as a consequence can provoke diabetes, car- diovascular diseases, osteoporosis, obesity, as well as malignant diseases. Properly bal- anced nutrition and adequate physical activ- ity can preserve and improve our health. The scope of this research has been to prove that persons who perform their physical activity regularly are more careful when choosing the type of food - therefore feed themselves more properly. The research has included 100 re- spondents, 60 women and 40 men, at the age of 20 to 35. The results obtained show that persons regularly physically active, rarely choose fast high calorie food and give advan- tage to proper and balanced nutrition, which, as a result, gives a normal body mass index. Health preservation and improvement have been recognised as the main reason for phys- ical activity and properly balanced nutrition. It can therefore be concluded that the aware- ness of the population about the importance of physical activity and proper nutrition for preservation and improvement of health has been increasing.

Porast učestalosti kroničnih nezaraznih bolesti razlog je sve veće zainteresiranosti javnog zdravstva u promicanju provođenja redovite tjelesne aktivnosti i pravilne preh- rane, posebno kod djece i mladih, kako bi se od najranije životne dobi stvorile pozitivne životne navike. Tjelesna aktivnost glavna je karika u očuvanju i poboljšanju zdrav- lja, unaprjeđenju mentalnih i kognitivnih sposobnosti te u razvijanju pozitivnog sport- skog duha. Ljudsko tijelo treba se neprekid- no pokretati radi prevencije i unapređenja zdravlja, od djetinjstva do starosti. Nažalost, u današnje vrijeme vrlo je česta smanjena tjelesna aktivnost, uz istovremene loše prehrambene navike. Upravo je nepravilna prehrana, uz nedovoljnu tjelesnu aktivnost, uzrok velikog broja kroničnih nezaraznih bolesti. Pravilno izbalansirana prehrana i odgovarajuća tjelesna aktivnost mogu očuvati i unaprijediti zdravlje. Cilj ovog pilot istraživanja bio je potvrditi da osobe koje se redovito bave tjelesnom aktivnosti pažljivije odabiru namirnice, odnosno pravilnije se hrane, te potaknuti javnozdravstvene pro- jekte promicanja zdravih životnih stilova.
