Action plan for power grid strengthening to support the integration of renewable energy sources

This study presents the main barriers but also the different ancillary services that variable renewable energy sources could provide to the power system, the planned infrastructure investments in the distribution and transmission network. The Action Plan proposes legislative changes, the proposal of a new connection fee the methodology by adjusting the existing “deep” (mixed) model and introducing regulatory solutions for voluntary curtailment. The Action Plan also takes a look at the technical, technological, and operational changes that the system operators should implement, such as initiating the public procurement procedures in the earlier stages of project development, increasing the transmission capacity in southern regions, constructing new transformers stations, changing the technical requirements for new renewable energy projects, introducing guarantees for completing renewable energy projects and human resource strengthening and capacity building.
