Endoscopic transcanal myringoplasty for closing anterior perforations of the tympanic membrane
Closing of the anterior tympanic membrane perforations has always been challenging for otologist mostly due to anatomy of the anterior wall of the external auditory canal and healing difference of the anterior part of the tympanic membrane. Endoscope allows us to overcome unfavorable anatomy of the anterior wall by passing the endoscope behind the obstacle, giving us a wide view of the whole perforation and anterior annulus. We present our experience in total endoscopic transcanal myringoplasty done in a Tertiary care center in Zagreb, Croatia. Total of 38 patients have been operated with a graft success rate of 92, 1 %. Mean operative time was 56, 7 minutes. Canaloplasty had to be performed in only one patient and mean preoperative and postoperative air-bone gaps were 17, 8 and 5, 9 dB respectively. Hence, we recommend using the endoscopic transcanal myringoplasty for repairing anterior tympanic membrane perforations.
