The Intellectual Development of Business Angel Decision-Making Field: A Co-Citation Analysis

One of the emerging research streams in entrepreneurship deals with business angels. As informal individual investors, they are important members of entrepreneurial ecosystem. Their previous business experience along with their personality factors are just some of the criteria that shape their investment decision-making process. We argue that all the knowledge in business angel decision-making is a blend of interdisciplinary studies, where psychology and finance push the research in this field to new levels. This interdisciplinary and evolution of this research field form intellectual dyads in the field. With this study, we investigate the nature of knowledge in the business angel decision-making is and show how the knowledge structure develops over time. Thus, we explore the intellectual dyads in business angel decision-making field through bibliometric co-citation analysis. We use ISI Web of Science as our core bibliometric database and restrict our analysis to peer-reviewed scholarly journal articles and reviews. We use a graph-based approach to visualise the bibliometric network of the field in VOSviewer and deliver an interval cluster analysis. Eleven clusters of knowledge emerge from our study in four observed intervals.
